President’s Message
THANK YOU
All of you, thank you! You helped make this year’s Midwest Superfest a success!
I think the club did an amazing job and we made some money that will help the things we do as a club, such as activities and the repeaters. Remember, this is YOUR club! Get involved and have fun! Bring your suggestions on what we can do.
I do want to congratulate all our winners and hope all the prizes get some use. I’m super happy to know that the grand prize went to a young ham and he is now actively studying to upgrade to his general license. I myself was one the big prize winners and I’m working to figure out this DMR stuff and put my new radio on the air too. I hope everyone got some good deals and are happy with them. This was the first year I really got a chance to get out into the flea market in a few years and I ‘m really happy with some of my finds. If you found some cool new radios and need to thin out the current shack, you can always sell and trade stuff on our discord.
Looking ahead, winter is coming. it’s time to make sure all your antennas are ready for winter. be safe and ask for help if you need it. Reach out on Discord, that’s what it’s for! In fact, as I type this, there is a conversation going on about programing radios.
We just started a new net for new hams and the first net was great. It’s a chance for new hams to get on the air and ask questions, and share what they’re doing. Dont be afraid to tune in and help elmer some of our new members on the Thursday Newcomer Net. Get involved. Be Radio-ACTIVE!
Be Safe, have fun and I’ll see ya on the radio!

Newcomer Net
This new net is designed to be a meeting spot for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year hams where they can share their journeys together. Sometimes new hams can feel overwhelmed by all of the technology and wide variety of operating modes, contests, special events, licensing and FCC rules. The Newcomer Net is a place to share, ask questions and build fellewship in our dynamic hobby. The Net is open to all, since everyone has something to share.
The Net is open to all, and welcomes checkins around the world locally, on EchoLink and on AllStarLink. Since long time hams have much to share with newcomers, everyone is encouraged to check in. Thanks to Rob, N9KRZ for serving as the developer and control operator for this net.
The first Net took place September 25, and will meet weekly on the W9UV repeater system at 8:00 Central Time.
