President’s Message
This month’s Show Off Your Shack is Rob, K9DBQ. Check out where the voice of our Sunday night net comes from. If you would like to have your setup featured, snap some pics and email them with a few words about it to [email protected]
We had a GREAT testing session with 9 total test takers that passed at least one test! We have 4 new Technicians, 1 new general, 2 upgrades to general and 2 upgrades to extra! Well done all. Be sure to come out in June and get your upgrade. Test sessions are the third weekend of even months.
On the third weekend of the odd months, we are going to start doing tours of radio related sites. First up, May 17, a tour of WTVP-TV, WCBU-FM, and the NOAA weather transmitter site. Please RSVP as Parking is limited and if we can carpool that would be nice. If you have ideas for sites to tour let us know! Email [email protected] or send me a message on Discord.

Before you know it, it will be time for the ARRL Summer Field Day. Field Day 2025 is June 28-29. We have not yet decided on a location, but if you have ideas, let us know quickly.
Further out in the calendar, Midwest Superfest! The 2025 Midwest Superfest will be held on September 20-21, 2025, in Chillicothe, Illinois. It’s an ARRL Central Division Convention, sponsored by the Peoria Area Amateur Radio Club. The event takes place at Three Sisters Park, with activities starting at 8 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday. As always, it takes a lot of help to put this event on. Join in on one of the meetings up coming. All meeting dates are listed on www.w9uvi.net
As always, ~73’s
Ben Knapp, KD9RYH

Meeting Minutes
Board of Directors – April 1, 2025
The meeting was called order at 6:11 p.m.at the Bartonville American Legion.
March Board minutes were not available.
The Treasurer’s Report was not available.
Repeater Committee: Tom reported that the K9PEO repeater was restarted. There was some sort of power glitch, possible related to storms that passed through the area at about the same time that the repeater went off the air. Jake reported that we are working on a better external antenna for the AllStar link for the two repeaters. The Glasford repeater is housed in a metal building, causing problems.
Midwest Superfest: Tom reported that Dwight submitted proof copies of the tickets. They will be printed and available soon.
New Business
Tom reported on problems with the w9uvi.org domain name. We are working on getting it renewed, although the club does not own it. The club owns w9uvi.net and w9uvi.com. We are now using w9uvi.net. The .org web address is widely used in our publicity materials, so it will take time to make corrections.
Blake Mason, KE9BSA was apointed to fill the Secretary vacancy It was unanimously approved by the Board.

There being now further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
Membership Meeting – April 1, 2025
Approximately 55 guests and members attended the Weather Spotter training session held April 1 at the Bartonville American Legion Hall.

Show Off Your Shack: KD9DBQ
This is the KD9DBQ shack. Not a whole lot to look at, but its functional. The radios include an ICOM IC7100 that I’m pretty much just using for VHF/UHF right now. This is the radio I run the net on. This radio is hooked up to a Diamond X200A dual band vertical. Theres also a TYT TH9800 Quad band

radio. During weather nets I use this as a monitor radio for Tazewell and Woodford weather nets and am able to immediately relay info to them if necessary. This radio is hooked up to an Ed Fong J pole. Both of these antenna are above the peak of my roof. These days I’m using a Yeasu FT450 (not the 450D) that I bought from the club several years ago. This was my first HF rig so I dont know if it really does better than the 7100, but in my mind it does. This rig is hooked up to a My Antennas EF80-10 end-fed half wave wire.
Like I said, not much to see but it is enough to run the net every week. Thanks for visiting my shack, till next week this is KD9DBQ saying thank you and 73
