President’s Message

ARRL Field day was a remarkable success! Thank you all for helping, coming out, and supporting our site.
We got about 60 total contacts across a bunch of bands and modes. I was very happy to see families, kids, and new hams (congrats to all of the new hams) at our event and beyond some sweat, i think everyone survived. We had 5 separate HF stations in operation and LOTS of great questions asked and answered. To me, this is what makes a good field day, just sharing in art of radio communications. As we get everything put away from this years event, it’s a great time to think about the next field day which is the Winter Field day. Always the last full weekend of January. Submit your ideas for locations and improvements now.

Speaking of things to submit, let’s get some more ‘show off my shack’ submissions, or ideas on where you would like to tour next. This is YOUR club, lets do what YOU want to do!
Later this month, ARES will be at a wonderful family event. The Central Illinois Emergency Expo. It’s a chance for kids of all ages to see and check out all kinds of emergency vehicles. To quote KD9DBQ, “firetrucks are always cool!”
And let’s not forget about the 2025 Midwest Superfest. It’s the club’s big event and it takes a lot of hours to put it on. KD9HZZ is our chairperson again this year and is doing a great job but he can use help. Check out the web page https://www.w9uvi.net/midwest-superfest/ for all the information on tickets, tables and stuff you need to know. Camping is free of charge and it’s another chance to hang out and get to know your fellow club members. It’s always a great time.
Hope to see you out there on the air
~73s,
Ben Knapp KD9RYH

A note from Steve, KD9AER

I am happy to announce that the project to link the W9UVI 147.075 and K9PEO 146.850 repeaters via WiresX is complete. This doubles the PAARC repeater coverage in Peoria County when using either repeater. It also makes storm spotting and equipment usage much more efficient.
I enjoyed working with Jake K9LE and Tom W8NWG on this project, and appreciate the support and patience from the PAARC leadership. It was a learning experience for all of us. Most of all I would like to thank Brad K9BDH from the Woodford County Repeater Association for sharing his expertise in this field whenever we needed it. Brad’s help was a huge contribution to the camaraderie between PAARC and WCRA.
73,
Steve
KD9AER
